Brisbane Blog

Me

Welcome to the Brisbane Blog. If you're on holiday in Brisbane, or if you live here and you've got some free time on your hands, you might be wondering about what things there are to do.

The Brisbane Blog lets you know about free, cheap, fun or exciting things going on in Brisbane: meetups, roller derby, burlesque, music, cult movies, local artists, anti-censorship protests, plays, and film festivals, just for a start. I especially like to promote Creative Commons in Brisbane.

Switch1197 runs bristraffic, a Twitter account that lets you know where there's traffic delays around Brisbane - click here if you want to follow it.

Brisneyland is a LiveJournal community for anyone who loves Brisbane - if you've got a question about Brisbane, no matter how obscure, there's probably someone with an answer - or you can follow the Brisneyland community's new posts on Twitter

If you'd like to meet up with lots of people from the Internet in Brisbane, you should either follow the Btub twitter account or join the Btub group on Facebook - Btub ("Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade") started off as a small group of Twitter users meeting up in Brisbane and is now getting quite big. All welcome, you don't have to be on Twitter if you don't want to, it's just a place to meet some friendly people. Click here to see a slideshow of some photos from the May 2009 meetup.

If you like taking photos and you want to meet other people in Brisbane who do too, take a look at the Brisbane Meetup group on Flickr, the photo-sharing website. You can also click here to see a slideshow of the group's latest work.

Mostly Radio

At Radio 4RPH, broadcasting at 1296 AM, volunteers read newspapers and magazines, and broadcast news, especially for people who can't read printed news and info themselves. Their program guide is here and a list of the many topics they cover is here.

Radio 4ZZZ, at 102.1 FM, is a volunteer-run community radio station playing indie, punk, rock, hip-hop, electronica, pop and more, and it's paid for by listeners - Follow their Twitter account here or click here to listen to them live over the Net

98.9FM plays Indigenous, Country and Blues music and is run by volunteer and supported by listeners.

Switch1197, broadcasting on 1197AM, is run by volunteers and focuses on dance and urban music. You can listen to them live over the Net if you click here, or if you want to follow their Twitter account, click here.

4MBS Classic FM, broadcasting on 103.7FM, plays classical music and is run by volunteers.

4EB-FM, broadcasting on 98.1FM, has shows in over fifty different languages, all produced by local volunteers.

ABC 612AM local radio's website is here, or you can follow the ABC 612AM Twitter account here

Twitter and Web info about Brisbane

The Translink website has info on public transport - ferries, including the popular CityCats, trains and buses - just click here to look up fares, timetables and their journey planner. If you want to follow their twitter account, as an example of how NOT to use Twitter by a large organisation, click here. Twitter Search can reveal messages on Twitter to, from and about Translink and shows you how they hardly ever respond to complaints online.

FourThousand.com.au is "a weekly snapshot of Brisbane's subculture - a Brisbane guide to film, music, design, books, art, goods and links for people who realise that the best things in life are often hard to find". You can follow their Twitter account if you click here.

There's three linked Twitter accounts with updates about what's going on in Brisbane, BNELife (nightlife+music), and BNEFood (restaurant reviews) plus GFBNE which focuses on the Gluten Free food scene in Brisbane.

The Eat Drink and Be Kerry blog by Kerry Heaney talks about food and drink in Brisbane. You can also follow the blog's Twitter account here.

There are lists of vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Brisbane here at the Vegetarian Society and here at Eatability.com.

OurBrisbane.com is the large official website from Brisbane Marketing, it's good for finding out about major events and so on. They have a fairly large dining section.
