So, if you've just joined Twitter you may be be wondering exactly what all the fuss is about. People use Twitter in lots of different ways, but the main way I use it is to meet other people in Brisbane. Brisbane has a thriving community on Twitter, and once a month there's a big meet-up called a btub.

The next btub is Friday night, Friday May 7th 2010, at Greystone Bar, Southbank.
btub stands for "Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade" but it's not really underground any more, we have lots of people turn up. There's lots of interesting and friendly people to chat to so if you're free, drop in. Sadly I can’t make it as I’m working till midnight :(

There's a btub group on Facebook, and there's a Facebook event for tomorrow night's meetup. And you can also follow btub's Twitter account. There’s also a heap if photos from last month’s btub here on Flickr, taken by flickr user naehutch (her Twitter account is here), and lots of photos from the last year or so of btubs here.

The meetup is at Greystone Bar, 177 Grey St, Southbank - click here for a Google Map with public transport details. If you need to look up public transport routes or timetables, click here for the Translink journey planner.

If you're on Twitter, a service that lets you find out what people are doing, you might want to follow the Brisbane Blog's Twitter account and you'll get updated every time there is a new story on the Brisbane Blog. Or if you want more, follow my personal account (David Jackmanson) and find out what I'm up to.

Brisbane Meetups: #btub Twitter meetup is on tonight, February 5th, @greystonebar

If you're a Twitter user in Brisbane, you might have heard of the monthly #btub meetups. #btub stands for Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade, although it's not very underground any more.

If you'd like to meet some new people in Brisbane you should come along. The #btub meetup kicks off at 6pm and usually goes through till 2 or 3 on Saturday morning, and it's at the Greystone Bar, 166 Grey St South Brisbane. It's just across Grey St from the Southbank 5 Cinemas - click here for a Google Map.

Here's a slideshow of pictures from the last btub meetup night in early December 2009. If you can't see the slideshow, click here to see the photos:

I won't be there till maybe 1 am this time, because I'll be at work then I'm going to see The Lovebuckles play at 11pm at the Music Kafe, but if you want to know more about the event, feel free to send a reply to either of my Twitter accounts, @brisbaneblog or @djackmanson, or of course you can leave a comment here. You can also follow the Greystone Bar twitter account, and the btub twitter account if you like.

BTUB regulars The Lovebuckles will play at the Music Kafe in West End at 11pm - some people will be walking up from Greystone Bar to West End.

The best way to get to Greystone Bar by public transport is to either catch a bus to the Southbank bus station, or a train to Southbank train station, both right near Grey St. If you catch a train make sure you don't get off at South Brisbane, which is one stop north of Southbank. Greystone Bar, the train station and bus station are all shown on this Google Map if you click here. If you need to know bus or train times, you can use Translink's public transport journey planner.

New to Twitter in Brisbane? Come to a @btub meet up TONIGHT, Friday July 3, @greystonebar, Southbank

Laura from Greystone Bar

So, you've just signed up to Twitter recently and you're still wondering what the point of it all is? Well, one of the things Twitter people in Brisbane do is have a big meet-up once a month. It's called #btub (which stands for Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade) and it's at Greystone Bar in Southbank, in between Grey St and Little Stanley St, opposite the Imax Cinema on Grey St (click here for a Google Map).

This month's #btub meetup is on Friday July 3, and starts at Greystone Bar at 6pm and will go through as long as people hang around (last month people were there till about 2am).

One of the great things about #btub is that there are no official leaders. People run smaller btub events as well, and if you think there should be an event, just announce it. If people are interested, they'll turn up, and you've got a #btub.

If you want to keep track of what btub events are on, you can either:

Join the BTUB group on Facebook
Follow @btub on Twitter
Follow the #btub hashtag on Twitter (what on earth is a hashtag? Click here for more info)

There are also plenty of photos from btub events on flickr - you can see the btub group photos here or search for photos tagged with btub here.

I won't be there tomorrow night until quite late, as I have to work until midnight :( But turn up, say hi, introduce yourselves and meet some friendly new people.

Some friendly btubbers

This is me at a btub.

So, if you've just joined Twitter you may be be wondering exactly what all the fuss is about. People use Twitter in lots of different ways, but the main way I use it is to meet other people in Brisbane. Brisbane has a thriving community on Twitter, and once a month there's a big meet-up called a btub.

The next btub is tomorrow night, Friday May 1st, at the Ship Inn, Southbank (the Ship Inn is at the south end of Southbank, near South Bank train and bus stations - click here for a Google Map). It kicks off at 6pm and will be going till late. We're on the second level - go through the beer garden, and you'll see glass sliding doors to the Griffith Graduate Centre. You'll see a sign pointing to the stairs - just go up, and you'll find us.

btub stands for "Brisbane Twitter Underground Brigade" but it's not really underground any more, we have lots of people turn up. There's lots of interesting and friendly people to chat to so if you're free, drop in - if you want to chat with me, my photo's on the side of this blog (but I now have longer hair and a goatee/mo). I'll be late (about 9pm) because I don't finish work till 8pm.
